Becoming a Peer Leader

Why Become a Volunteer Peer Leader?

Being a leader is satisfying! You will have fun, meet new friends & help people affected by chronic conditions successfully manage their health conditions by using the skills and tools that you have shared with them.

Peer Leader Training is available for persons affected by chronic conditions including patients, family members, caregivers and educators. Training is FREE!

The role of our peer leader is to facilitate the 6-week, 2.5 hour per week "Maximize Your Health" workshops for groups of 12-18 participants.

What do Leaders Do?

Workshop leaders facilitate the six week Maximize your health workshop in community settings. Leaders follow a scripted manual to teach & model skills from the Stanford University Chronic Disease Self Management Program. Leaders set a positive example by being a role model for workshop participants through their own self management.

Leaders attend a free 4 day training course which will teach the skills required to facilitate the workshop. Certified leaders are asked to commit to deliver at least one workshop within 6 months of completing their training. Leaders must facilitate one workshop per year to retain an active leader certification.
